I showed this piece at the Calgary Biennial in 2012 - an exhibition curated by Stephen Cottingham that centred irreverent spaces, and showed the power of informal artist-run centres. This work was a pseudo-scientific examination of a collection of grocery lists that I had amassed during the years that I worked at an organic grocery store in Calgary. Having collected hundreds of these little glimpses into the very intimate nature of people’s lives, I wanted to talk about home, family and intimacy in a way that puts it under a scrutinizing, but perhaps not altogether accurate microscope. At Stephen’s rather ingenious suggestion, I hid these lists around the 4 different galleries that the Biennial transversed, with the larger installation on view at the final gallery.
