Roughly meaning “environment” in yiddish, sbibh was an installation was made for “hopelessly devoted to you,” a group exhibition at the khyber themed around predictions for “the end", contemporary consumerist culture, art/capitalism, materialism/pleasure, ice coffee/ice tea and Olivia Newton-John. I created an installation that was a take on the gallery reception snack table: an offering of fermented healing foods drawn from my own ashkenazi roots. this project was an exploration of bodily care and a practice of nurturing, looking at how a cultured food biome can be a microcosm for caring community and an homage to Eastern European witchcraft and mysticism. each item was labled with a small written contemplation on nourishment and embracing the pungent aspects of our cultures that make them unique - an unapologetic offering of aquired taste that the loving community of the khyber embraced with gusto.
